If you're a pregnant alcoholic, then life has given you something very positive. The new life inside you has created an opportunity, an excuse if you will, to quit your drinking for good. When you were drinking heavily before, it was just you. Only you would suffer the negative consequences. Mostly you drank because you didn't like yourself, so that suited you just fine. Now there is a new story, a new chapter in your life. Recognize this is a hopeful chance for change.

You've decided that you will have the baby, and the delivery is only a few short months away. You must realize that the kind of baby that emerges from your womb is greatly influenced by the daily decision you're faced with now: to drink or not to drink? For the life of another, that is the most important question. Maybe you have to come up with complicated plans, telling yourself every day that you'll have a drink tomorrow. Tomorrow comes, and you tell yourself the same thing again. Nine months is 270 days. That is indeed a long time to go without a drink for an alcoholic. However you can do it, you just have to ask someone for help. You can't do it alone unfortunately.

The first thing to consider if you can afford it is a private alcohol counselor. A few thousand dollars is well worth it if it saves the health of your child and the guilt of you contributing to your baby's dysfunctional development. If money is a major barrier to personal counseling, then consider Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.). It is a cheap and effective way to meet some people who have been in your shoes in the past, and can provide an outlet outside of your current circle if some of your drinking problems are encouraged there.

The last thing to mention are the birth defects you'll impart on your child if you drink during your pregnancy: mental retardation, learning disorders, emotional issues, as well as physical defects of the major organs. Look, there's no reason to be scared. Take hold of the positive feelings that you're going to be a mother and let go of the negative feelings related to your alcohol by reaching out to someone. You cannot do it alone.

Alcohol can be a big show stopper when it comes to post pregnancy weight loss. So if you're wondering how to lose pregnancy weight then definitely consider cutting alcohol completely out of your diet.
